BTN News: Deadliest Catch star Nick McGlashan has died at the age of 33 following a stint on long-running crabbing show as the Machiavellian fisherman Nick Mavar, died at the age of 59. Mavar died Thursday from natural causes, Bristol Bay Borough Police Department in Alaska confirmed. He reportedly vanished at a boat yard in Naknek, Alaska, and his family has been informed.
A Veteran of the Sea
Mavar longteime legacy on “Deadliest Catch” threw down 98 episodes accross 17 season. He later became a known personality when he started working as a deckhand on the fishing boat “Northwestern”. Mavar has also appeared in multiple spin-offs outside of the regular series, most notably “Deadliest Catch: Legends Born & Broken” and “Deadliest Catch: Evolution of Danger.”
Construction Problems and Court Battles
Mavar left at the end of last year following a health emergency. The cancer was detected after his appendix burst on the film set. The episode led Mavar to sue the owner of the boat, Sig Hansen, for $1 million, alleging its crew didn’t have a proper medical emergency plan at the time because of Covid-19 restrictions. The lawsuit was redirected by Hansen later towards the production company, Original Productions Inc., which allegedy set up the procedures. The defendants in the action denied liability, claiming that the injuries sustained by Mavar were inflicted on him by Mavar himself and certain other third parties.

The encounter with danger was not the first for Mavar. Nine years ago he had changed a from a hook which had been blown by a storm into his face and broke his nose. This near-brush with death, much like that time his appendix tried to kill him, made for another dramatic moment that Discovery Channel captured on video and posted to its YouTube channel, demonstrating just how dangerous their work can be.
