BTN News: We are not through to midsummer’s day yet and in France the summer sun is still some way away. The cold country is wetter than usual for the week with the beginning at the meteorological summer, which starts on June 1 and lasts until summer on June 20. But as the weekend ends, a light appears at the end of the tunnel, with enhancements anticipated soon.
As for France the news is not good – well below average temperatures this summer and no let-up in sight until the solstice. It’s not going to get better any time soon; in fact, it’s going to get worse, with much of the country experiencing below-normal temperatures by Thursday.
Yellow Alerts Stemming from Stormy Weather
Thunderstorms in easter parts of France are to begin on Wednesday A large part of the country is under yellow weather alerts. On Thursday, the storms will move south and southeast, eventually getting into northern regions later in the day. It will again add new dust from the Sahara, and a further wave of Saharan sand is expected to hit Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Corsica.
Mixed Forecast Friday and Fete de la musique Also on Friday, the Gallic version of the Make Music festival, the Fête de la Musique, began at official locations throughout the country.
Most of the rest of France will continue to enjoy sunny summer weather, but thunderstorms are forecast for some in the east on Friday. Good news, especially for the many soon to be revellers of France’s annual Fête de la Musique, as no major disruptions from rain are expected at open-air events.
Weather Into the Weekend and A Taste of Summer
Thunderstorms are expected to clear by the weekend, but a front will develop crossing the county with rain and cloud in all state and territories, except the south east. Yet, forecasters have an optimistic outlook on the weather to come as they anticipate a change for the better starting on Sunday. But rain will occasionally punctuate days in the southeast, so those wanting to get the barbecue on may need to wait a bit longer.
A Patient Wait for Summer Sunshine
It will just be a bit longer until we can picnic, have a barbecue, or take a swim in the sunshine. The weather pattern indicates that it will gradually get better, but intermittent rain is expected, so it will take a while before a proper summer gets settled in.
