BTN News: The National Directorate of Taxes and Customs (DIAN) in Colombia has officially announced that the technical issues affecting the filing and payment of tax declarations have been resolved. This news comes as a relief to many taxpayers who experienced difficulties between August 12 and August 16 due to system instability. According to DIAN, following approval from the Directorate of Innovation and Technology Management, the previously declared contingency has been lifted. This means that individuals and businesses whose tax obligations were due during that period now have until August 20 to fulfill their requirements without facing any penalties or interest charges.
For those whose tax deadlines fall after August 16, the expectation remains to adhere to the originally scheduled due dates as per the tax calendar. The extension until August 20 is specifically for those with deadlines between August 12 and August 16. This includes taxpayers with National Tax Identification (NIT) numbers ending in the digits 01-10, who were originally scheduled to file their income tax returns during those days.
DIAN has also outlined the adjusted timeline for the rest of August, where taxpayers whose NITs end in subsequent digits must continue to file their returns according to the set schedule. Specifically, those with NITs ending in 11-12 must file by August 20, 13-14 by August 21, and so on, until the end of the month. It is important to note that not everyone is required to file an income tax return, so taxpayers should verify whether this obligation applies to them.
In light of the recent disruptions, DIAN has committed to closely monitoring the situation to ensure a smooth process moving forward. The agency has also extended its customer support services through all available channels, including weekends and public holidays, to assist citizens in meeting their tax obligations. Notably, on Saturday, DIAN highlighted its ongoing efforts to support taxpayers nationwide through special attention sessions.
This development underscores DIAN’s dedication to facilitating compliance and minimizing the impact of technical issues on taxpayers. With the extended deadline, affected individuals and businesses are encouraged to promptly complete their tax filings to avoid any last-minute complications.
