British Leader Accuses Far-Right of Inciting Riots After Killing of 3 Girls

BTN News: In the quiet town of Southport, in the northwest of England, residents were cleaning up after a terrible clash on Wednesday. They were picking up broken bricks, shattered glass, and burned plastic. This violence happened after a peaceful vigil. The vigil was for three young girls, aged 6, 7, and 9, who were killed during a special dance and yoga class inspired by Taylor Swift.

The tragic attack happened at a summer workshop. About two dozen children, mostly girls, were at the dance studio. A teenager with a knife entered the studio and started attacking. Alice Dasilva Aguiar, who was 9 years old, Elsie Dot Stancombe, who was 7, and Bebe King, who was 6, all died from their injuries. The police said ten more people were hurt. This included five children and two adults who are in critical condition.

After this terrible event, Southport saw even more chaos. Hundreds of far-right protesters, said to be with the English Defence League, fought with the police. They threw bricks and bottles and set fire to bins and cars. This violence injured 39 police officers. Twenty-seven of these officers needed to go to the hospital.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke out against the vandalism. He said the protesters had taken over the community’s mourning. The violence was caused by anger and false rumors on the internet about the 17-year-old suspect. The police said that the name going around on social media was wrong. They also said the suspect was born in the UK. This was against the false claims online that he was an asylum seeker.

Local legislator Patrick Hurley said the violence was due to “propaganda and lies” spread on social media. He called the rioters “drunken hooligans.” This tragic event and the following unrest come at a time when the UK is seeing more knife crimes. This increase has led to calls for stricter rules on knives.

The murders in Southport have shocked the community and the whole country. It shows the need to deal with violent crime and the spread of false information. As Southport mourns the loss of three innocent lives, it also has to heal from the violence on its streets after this tragedy.

The government, local authorities, and communities need to work together to fix these problems. This will help make sure such events do not happen again. It will also honor the memories of Alice, Elsie, and Bebe by bringing lasting change.
