High Satisfaction Among Tourists: 92% Intend to Return to the Dominican Republic for Future Vacations

BTN News: The Dominican Republic continues to solidify its position as a top destination for tourists, with an impressive showing in the first seven months of 2024. The Ministry of Tourism conducted an extensive analysis, surveying nearly a quarter of a million visitors to understand their experiences and satisfaction levels. The results paint a picture of a country that not only captivates its visitors but also entices them to return, with an overwhelming 92% of respondents expressing a strong intention to revisit. This high satisfaction rate speaks volumes about the quality of the experiences offered, from breathtaking destinations and exciting activities to the warm hospitality and rich culture that make the Dominican Republic a must-visit location.

Among the surveyed tourists, five out of ten engaged in standout activities that highlighted the diverse offerings of the Dominican Republic. Popular excursions included visiting Isla Saona, which captured the interest of 15% of respondents, while 12% indulged in snorkeling adventures, and 11% experienced the thrill of Four Wheels tours. Other notable activities included excursions to the historic Zona Colonial and horseback riding, which attracted 7% and 4% of the tourists, respectively. The variety and appeal of these activities were so strong that 80% of the participants expressed a desire to repeat these experiences on future visits.

When it came to accommodation, the survey revealed that a substantial majority of 78% preferred staying in hotels, underscoring the strength and appeal of the Dominican Republic’s hospitality industry. Meanwhile, 8% opted to stay with friends or family, another 8% chose short-term rentals, 4% used their own properties, and 2% participated in time-share arrangements. Significantly, a staggering 96% of visitors indicated they would choose the same type of accommodation again, reflecting a deep satisfaction with their lodging choices.

Punta Cana emerged as the most popular destination within the country, drawing 40% of the visitors. Other top destinations included Santo Domingo with 19%, Puerto Plata at 13%, La Romana with 11%, and Samaná, Santiago, and Barahona rounding out the list with 8%, 7%, and 2% respectively. The Dominican Republic’s appeal doesn’t stop at its borders, as 40% of tourists also took the opportunity to explore other Caribbean destinations. Notably, 30% visited other Caribbean islands, 28% ventured to Cancún, 13% explored Jamaica, 10% visited Cuba, and 7% included Costa Rica in their travels.

The planning habits of tourists further highlight the Dominican Republic’s appeal. A significant portion, 38%, planned their trips one to three months in advance, and 51% opted for package deals that included both flight and hotel, emphasizing the convenience and value these packages offer. The influence of social media in shaping travel decisions was undeniable, with 57% of tourists citing platforms like Instagram and Facebook as significant factors in their choice to visit the Dominican Republic. Moreover, 79% used social media to gather information about their chosen destinations, underscoring the importance of a strong online presence in today’s tourism industry.

Gastronomy played a crucial role in the overall experience of visitors, with 85% of respondents in July 2024 reporting a positive experience with the local cuisine. Notably, 36% of those staying in hotels chose to dine outside their establishments, reflecting a strong interest in exploring the local culinary scene.

The tourism sector in the Dominican Republic continues to experience remarkable growth, a trend highlighted by the arrival of nearly 7 million visitors between January and July 2024. This brings the total number of visitors since August 2020 to an impressive 31,947,565. The month of July 2024 alone saw the arrival of 811,192 tourists by air, marking a 2% increase compared to the same month in 2023, a 10% increase over 2022, and a significant 37% jump from 2019 figures.

Minister of Tourism David Collado emphasized the sustained and extraordinary growth of the tourism sector, pointing to these figures as evidence of the country’s continued success in attracting and satisfying tourists from around the world. The Dominican Republic’s blend of stunning natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and top-notch hospitality continues to make it a leading destination for travelers seeking unforgettable experiences.
