BTN News: Edesur Dominicana, one of the leading electricity distribution companies in the Dominican Republic, marked a significant milestone by celebrating its 25th anniversary with a special thanksgiving mass. This event underscored the company’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the efficiency, user experience, and overall quality of its services. Held at the San Judas Tadeo Parish in Naco, within the Distrito Nacional, the ceremony was a moment of reflection and reaffirmation for the company’s leadership. The mass was presided over by Father José Arismendy Elena, with key figures such as Celso Marranzini, President of the Unified Council of Electricity Companies (CUED), Luis Miura, Vice President of CUED, and other distinguished council members in attendance.
Celso Marranzini, addressing the congregation, emphasized the current challenges facing the electricity distribution sector. He pointed out that while significant strides have been made, the perception of inefficiency still lingers, a legacy issue that the company is determined to overcome. Marranzini expressed hope that within the next three to four years, the electricity distribution companies, including Edesur, would achieve high levels of efficiency, meeting the demands of a modern energy landscape. This goal is strongly supported by the current administration under President Luis Abinader, which places great responsibility on Edesur to elevate its service standards and shed its historical reputation as a “Cinderella” among Dominican companies.
Marranzini highlighted that while energy shortages were a major issue in the past, the current situation is vastly different. Today, with nearly four million customers across the three electricity distribution companies (EDEs), there is no shortage of energy, but there is still a significant debt owed to society in terms of service quality and reliability. This acknowledgment reflects the company’s understanding of the need to balance technical capabilities with customer satisfaction.
José Luis Actis, the interim General Manager of Edesur, also spoke during the event, outlining the company’s advancements and future goals. Actis emphasized that Edesur has implemented modern systems for managing its electricity distribution networks, which enables more efficient commercial operations, accurate electricity measurement, and better customer service for its over one million clients. Despite these advancements, Actis acknowledged the ongoing challenges, particularly in extending services to remote areas within Edesur’s coverage spectrum where electricity is still not available in some households.
The commitment to growth was a central theme in Actis’s remarks. He stressed the importance of expanding service to meet the demands of all potential customers, ensuring that every individual who requires electricity can access it. Improving customer service remains a top priority, with a focus on providing a seamless, integrated experience from the initial contract to the resolution of any complaints, ensuring customers feel fully satisfied with the service provided.
Among the key challenges identified by Edesur are controlling the distribution of energy, ensuring accurate billing, and fostering trust and respect from both customers and the government under President Abinader’s leadership. The company recognizes that achieving these goals requires not only technological upgrades but also a cultural shift towards greater efficiency and customer focus.
As Edesur Dominicana looks to the future, the company is committed to overcoming the obstacles that have historically plagued the sector. With the support of the government and a clear focus on efficiency, customer satisfaction, and service quality, Edesur aims to transform its operations and solidify its position as a leader in the Dominican Republic’s energy sector. This anniversary serves as a reminder of the progress made and the road ahead, as Edesur continues to work towards delivering reliable and efficient electricity to every corner of its service area.
