North Darfur Famine Expected to Continue Until October, CIF Report Warns

BTN News: The region of North Darfur in Sudan is now suffering from severe famine conditions. Experts say this situation will last until October. This warning comes from a global food security group. The group points to the terrible impact of the ongoing conflict in Sudan. This conflict has been going on for over 15 months. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report shows that parts of North Darfur, especially the Zamzam camp, are in deep trouble. They are experiencing the worst kind of hunger, known as IPC Phase 5.

The IPC includes over a dozen UN agencies, humanitarian aid groups, and governments. They use IPC to analyze food and nutrition crises worldwide. IPC Phase 5 is the most severe level. It means at least one in five households lack food badly. They face starvation and extreme poverty. This leads to very high levels of acute malnutrition and death.
