BTN News: A tragic event took place on Tuesday night at a gym in Villa Elvira, La Plata. A 52-year-old man, Marcelo Javier Vispo, died while he was exercising. He was a regular at the gym, and many people saw what happened. It seems he had a heart attack while working out.
This sad incident happened around 9 PM at the Kualia gym, located on 80th Street between 121 and 122. The staff quickly realized how serious the situation was. They evacuated the gym and called for medical help. Emergency medical professionals from the Emergency Medical Attention System (SAME) arrived fast. They tried to save Vispo by performing CPR, but they could not bring him back to life.
Witnesses described the moments of the emergency. “The instructor who was with him informed us,” said one of the gym members to a local news outlet, 0221.com. Marcelo Javier Vispo lived in the Palihue neighborhood in La Plata and was well-known in the area.
After the incident, the 16th Police Station of La Plata took action. They responded to the gym staff’s call for help. The cause of death is being investigated by Prosecutor Gonzalo Petit Bosnic from the UFI No. 3. The gym decided to close at least for the following day to mourn Marcelo Javier Vispo’s death.
This tragic event is very similar to another one that happened in late 2023. At that time, another man died in a gym in the center of La Plata. This 48-year-old man was found dead in one of the bathrooms of a popular fitness center. SAME confirmed his death, and since there were no signs of violence, the case was labeled as an “investigation of causes of death.”
These events show how important it is to know your physical limits and the need for quick medical response in emergencies. They also highlight the importance of having trained staff who can handle such situations and the need for emergency medical facilities to be easily accessible.
Such incidents remind us to be cautious while exercising and to seek medical advice before starting any new fitness routine, especially for those with preexisting health conditions. The presence of skilled professionals and immediate medical aid can sometimes mean the difference between life and death. It is a stark reminder for gyms to ensure that their staff is well-trained and their facilities are equipped to handle emergencies.
