Next Toyota Corolla Hybrid to Be Enhanced with Toyota Prius Design and BYD Technology

BTN News: The Toyota Corolla is known around the world for its reliability and efficiency. As the car industry changes, Toyota is getting ready to introduce a new version of its famous model. This new generation will take ideas from the Toyota Prius and BYD. Toyota wants to make sure the Corolla stays modern with updates in design, performance, and technology.

Japanese media Bestcar leaked information about the next-generation Corolla. It will still have a hybrid model, which many people love. But now, Toyota will also add a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version. This means the car can run on both gasoline and electric power. Toyota is making these changes to keep up with what customers want and to meet new environmental rules.

The hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) version of the Corolla will have some changes. It will switch from the current 1.8-liter engine to a smaller 1.5-liter engine. This new engine is being developed by Toyota, Subaru, and Mazda together. It will have about 130 horsepower. There is also talk about a possible three-cylinder engine, but this is not confirmed yet.

For the plug-in hybrid version, Toyota will use the same 1.5-liter engine but with advanced hybrid technology. This technology might come from BYD’s DM-i system. In BYD’s cars, this system includes a 197-horsepower electric motor and an 18.3 kWh battery. This setup could allow the Corolla PHEV to drive over 80 kilometers on electric power alone. When combining electric and gasoline power, the car might have a range of about 2,100 kilometers based on Chinese CLTC standards.

For drivers who want more power, there will be a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine option. This engine will produce around 180 horsepower. This option is for those who want a more exciting driving experience but still appreciate the Corolla’s efficiency and reliability.

The new Corolla will look different too. It will take design ideas from the Toyota Prius, focusing on better aerodynamics and a modern look. These changes will help the car be more efficient and give it a fresh appearance. The new design will make the Corolla look more dynamic while keeping it practical and easy to use.

However, the new generation Corolla won’t be available until 2026. It will first be launched in Japan and then in other markets around the world. The new model will be built on an updated version of the TNGA-C platform, which supports many of Toyota’s other cars. This platform will provide a strong base for the new Corolla’s different power options.

Toyota’s partnership with BYD shows its commitment to future technologies. Since they started working together in 2020, Toyota and BYD have been developing new hybrid and electric vehicle technologies. This collaboration is important for the new Corolla’s development.

In summary, the next generation of the Toyota Corolla will mix proven reliability with new technology and modern design. With both hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, Toyota is ready to meet new customer needs and environmental rules. The new Corolla will honor its past while looking forward to the future. The launch in 2026 promises a car that combines the best of both worlds, keeping the Corolla legacy alive and strong.
