BTN News: Porsche has unveiled the latest addition to its lineup, the new RWD variant of the Macan, which boasts impressive performance and range. With a power output of 250 kW (340 hp) and a top speed of 220 km/h, this model can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds. This positions it slightly behind the Macan 4, which achieves the same sprint in 5.2 seconds. The new variant’s WLTP range is a remarkable 641 kilometers, surpassing the Macan 4 Electric’s 613 km and the Macan Turbo Electric’s 591 km.
The RWD variant features an electric motor with a diameter of 230 millimeters and an active length of 150 millimeters. This contrasts with the Macan 4’s rear motor, which has a 210-millimeter diameter and a 200-millimeter active length. Meanwhile, the most powerful Macan variant maintains a 230-millimeter diameter and a 210-millimeter active length. Despite these differences, all three variants share the same motor on the front axle, ensuring consistent performance across the lineup.
For the new Macan 4S, Porsche has equipped it with a motor capable of delivering up to 330 kW (380 kW with overboost via Launch Control) and a maximum torque of 820 Nm. This electric vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 240 km/h. The WLTP combined range for the Macan 4S is up to 606 kilometers, showcasing its efficiency and long-distance capability.
All the Macan variants, including the rear-wheel-drive and Macan 4S, are powered by a 100 kWh (95 kWh net) lithium-ion battery pack. This battery operates at 800 volts and supports charging capacities of up to 11 kW (AC) and 270 kW (DC). Porsche claims that at a suitable fast-charging station, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 21 minutes.
In terms of pricing in the UK, the new Macan starts at £67,200, while the Macan 4S is priced at £75,400. The performance-oriented Macan Turbo, with its AWD configuration, produces 430 kW of power (470 kW with overboost via Launch Control) and a staggering 1,130 Nm of torque. This variant achieves a top speed of 260 km/h and has a WLTP range of 591 kilometers.
Porsche began production of the all-electric Macan at its Leipzig, Germany plant in May. This marks a significant milestone as it is Porsche’s first fully electric SUV and the inaugural vehicle built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE). The new Macan’s launch underscores Porsche’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the luxury SUV market.
