The new United States legal immigration program for Venezuelans can be requested online.
The United States Department of Homeland Security announced the new process to obtain the visa that allows Venezuelan citizens and their immediate family emigrate to the United States.
It seeks to provide a safe and orderly way for 24 thousand natives of Venezuela who do not have entry documents can enter the North American country by air, due to urgent humanitarian reasons and an important public benefit.
From Washington they announced that those who cross the border on foot or by swimming will be immediately returned to Mexico. This measure was taken because there was a 293% increase in income from land between 2021 and 2022.
Los requirements that Venezuelans must comply with to participate in this process are:
- Have a supporter in the United States who agrees to provide them with financial support for the duration of their parole in the country.
- Undergo and pass a robust security investigation.
- Meet other eligibility criteria.
- Merit a favorable exercise of discretion.
Those who are authorized may enter the country for a period of up to two yearsand will be eligible to apply for a employment authorizationwhich can be done through form I-765 on the USCIS page.
In the month of September 2022 alone, 33,000 Venezuelans who tried to enter the country irregularly were detained on the southern border of the United States, so the 24,000 places provided by the program are considered as insufficient.
However, the Acting Undersecretary for Border and Immigration Policy of the Department of Homeland Security, Nuñez Neto, maintained that this “is not going to be the last issue to be announced.”
