Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday assured the Kashmir youth that they would not be affected as their parents and grandparents had experienced in the past. He laid the foundation for many projects for the Union Territory.
Speaking to 30 lakh selected rural local body members across the country during the Panchayat Raj Day celebrations from Palli village in Samba district, Prime Minister Modi said, “I will prove it to you and I am here to give you this guarantee.”
During his first visit to the Union Territory of Kashmir after the revision of Section 370 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019, he showed the momentum of Jammu and Kashmir’s development and laid the foundation for several development projects worth about Rs 20,000 crores.
These include the opening of the banihal-qazigund road tunnel, which will reduce travel time between Jammu and Srinagar by two hours, and the laying of the foundation stone for a 500-kilowatt solar power plant at Palli, the Ratle and Quar Hydel projects, the Senap, and the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway projects.
Modi said it would take two or three weeks for a file to reach Jammu and Kashmir at a time. “Today, I am happy to see that the 500 kW solar power project in Palli Panchayat has been completed in just three weeks,” he said. Also, Prime Minister Modi said that green electricity will be available to all households in the village.
He said if the Ratle and Quar hydropower projects are completed in the next two years, electricity will not only be sufficient for Jammu and Kashmir but will also become a source of income.
Referring to the changes that have taken place since Section 370 was amended and the special status of the state of Jammu and Kashmir has been revoked, he said that it has empowered the people of Jammu and Kashmir and more than 30,000 panchayat representatives are handling matters related to governance. “For the first time, peaceful three-tier panchayat elections have been held. Today these people are making their dreams come true. ” Said Prime Minister Modi.
The Prime Minister also called for bridging the gap between the people. “When I say ‘one India’ and ‘Better India’, the focus is on connectivity and bridging the gap. Eliminating the distances of hearts, languages, customs or resources is our top priority today, ”said Prime Minister Modi.
