BTN News: On Wednesday, August 21, President Luis Abinader will lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the public access construction to the highly anticipated Punta Bergantín tourism project. This marks a significant milestone in the Dominican Republic’s ongoing efforts to revitalize and elevate Puerto Plata as a premier global tourist destination. The event will also feature the inauguration of the construction of the first hotel in the project, the Hyatt Zilara, which is set to be a luxurious 800-room resort under the prestigious “Inclusive Collection” brand.
The Punta Bergantín project, located just a short drive from key areas—15 minutes from Puerto Plata, 12 minutes from Sosúa, and a mere eight minutes from Gregorio Luperón International Airport—is set to transform the northern coastline. This expansive development is designed to accommodate up to six five-star hotels, offering a total of 4,500 rooms, alongside 1,500 vacation units, and 2,500 mixed-use units. The project also includes public beach clubs, a one-of-a-kind themed village, a state-of-the-art film studio, and an innovation center, making it a comprehensive hub for tourism, entertainment, and creativity.
The Punta Bergantín project has already secured partnerships with several prominent hotel groups, signaling strong confidence in the region’s potential. The Martinón Group will begin construction on the Hyatt Zilara, marking the first of four planned luxury hotels. Following closely are developments by Meliá Hotels International and Grupo Puntacana, which will bring a Meliá hotel to the area, as well as Hilton and Marriott properties.
Managed by the Dominican government through the Banco de Reservas and the Ministry of Tourism, the Punta Bergantín Trust (Fideicomiso Punta Bergantín) aims to restore Puerto Plata’s position on the world tourism map. This initiative underscores a commitment to leveraging the natural beauty of the area and the warmth of its people to create a tourism experience that is both unique and compelling.
The development of Punta Bergantín is a strategic move to not only attract international visitors but also to stimulate the local economy, create jobs, and enhance the overall infrastructure of the region. With its mix of luxury accommodations, residential units, and entertainment facilities, Punta Bergantín is poised to become a cornerstone of the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry, offering a diverse range of experiences that cater to both leisure and business travelers.
As construction begins, the anticipation surrounding Punta Bergantín continues to grow. The combination of world-class hospitality, innovative amenities, and the stunning natural landscape makes this project a beacon of future tourism in the Dominican Republic. The government’s vision, as executed through the Punta Bergantín Trust, is clear: to create a destination that not only attracts visitors from around the globe but also enriches the local community and showcases the Dominican Republic’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
