Bright Times News: The debate over another decision of the Narendra Modi government. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) is about to cut off grants from the Indian National Academy of Engineering. The academy authorities have already been informed about the matter in a letter from the department under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MST).
But not now, this grant will be closed after March 31, 2025. Then the academy will have to provide its expenses. Leading scientists and engineers of the country have been vocal in criticizing this decision of the Central Government. Despite claims from the Department of Science and Technology, the decision is still under consideration.

Most of the country’s leading scientists and engineers have been associated with the INAE since its inception. The most notable of these is the former President and Missile Man Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The academy also has names like renowned nuclear scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar or former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) K Kasturirangan.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) sent two letters to this academy (INAE) on May 8 and June 24. The letter, dated May 8, said, “The Department of Expenditure has advised us to close our contact with the Indian National Academy of Engineering.” Instead, the company should be developed as a section 6 company under the Companies Act of 2013.
In a letter to the Academy (INAE) on behalf of the department dated June 24, it was informed that no responsibility will be taken on behalf of the central government after June 31, 2025. That means no more money will be allocated to the academy on behalf of the government.
Atomic scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar has spoken out against this policy of the Modi government. He claims that the Academy (INAE) is an educational and research institution. Forcing the company to bear its financial responsibility would amount to shutting down the academy. However, the Department of Science and Technology said the matter is still under consideration.
