Alleged gang-rape of a woman at New Delhi railway station, 4 railway workers arrested

Bright Times News: Allegations of gang rape of a woman at New Delhi railway station were made against railway workers. Allegedly, two railway workers physically assaulted the woman in the electrical maintenance staff room. Police have arrested the accused.

According to police sources, a 30-year-old woman was gang-raped by two railway workers inside the electrical maintenance staffroom of the railway station on Thursday night. Police said that an FIR has been filed in the case of gang rape.

A total of four railway workers have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident. Police said two of them were helped by physical surveillance by guards outside. Railway Police DSP Harendra Singh said that the accused have been identified.

The arrested Satish Kumar (35), Vinod Kumar (38), Mangal Chand Meena, (33), and Jagadish Chand (37) – are all employees of the electrical department of the railways, said the police official. Four accused were arrested within two hours of filing the FIR. As soon as the accused were produced in a court in Delhi, they were ordered to judicial custody for 14 days, said the DSP of the Railway Police.

Railway Police DSP Harendra Singh also said that on July 22 at around 3:27 a.m., the victim called and complained that two men raped her in a room inside the railway station. After that, the police started investigating the incident.

However, the incident of rape took place in a hut next to the train, DSP said. The victim told the police that the woman lived separately from her husband. A divorce case is also going on between them. About two years ago, he met one of the accused in the incident.

The accused also believes that he arranges a job in the Railways for the woman. On July 21, the accused invited the woman to his son’s birthday party. According to police, he was picked up from Delhi’s Kirti Nagar metro station around 10:30 pm and taken to the spot.

According to the victim’s statement, the police said that she was first asked to sit in the light hut of the train. After some time the accused and another of his friends came and took the woman to a room on the railway. After that, the woman claimed that the two gangs raped her. The woman alleged that the accused and two other accomplices were busy guarding the room against the outside.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the police registered a case against the accused under sections 376D (rape) and 342 (wrongful detention) of the Indian Penal Code. Questions are being raised about the responsibility of the railway police in this incident in the railway station.
