Indonesian President Begins Work in New Capital Amid Construction and Lack of Facilities

BTN News: Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo has started working from the new presidential palace in Nusantara. This is a big step in the plan to move the capital. President Widodo welcomed officials to the new office. The new capital is in East Kalimantan on Borneo island. This move is part of a big development project for the country.

On his first day, Widodo was hopeful and determined. He talked about the progress that has been made so far. The new capital is growing quickly. Many projects are still being built. Widodo met with leaders from the Nusantara Development Authority. He also planned more meetings with provincial leaders. He checked to make sure that basic facilities like water, electricity, and internet were working well in his new office.

Widodo’s visit to Nusantara is important. He wants the new capital to be ready for the Independence Day celebrations on August 17. Widodo hopes the new presidential palace of Garuda will host this event. The palace is currently 88% finished. Moving the capital to Nusantara will help solve problems in Jakarta. However, the move to Nusantara has not been easy. The project is expected to cost $33 billion. Most of the money will come from private investors. Only 20% will come from the state budget. This means the government needs to attract a lot of private investment. This money will help build the necessary infrastructure and public facilities. To encourage this, Widodo signed a new rule. This rule grants land rights to investors for up to 190 years in Nusantara.

Despite these efforts, the relocation has faced many challenges. Delays and missed deadlines have caused concerns about the project. The top leaders of the Nusantara Capital Authority resigned last month. This added to the worries about the project’s management. Still, Widodo’s dedication shows his commitment. He wants everything ready for the Independence Day celebrations.
